Drew McIntyre: 2022 Biography, Net Worth, Family, Income
Andrew McLean Galloway, better known as Drew McIntyre or Drew Galloway, is an active professional wrestler currently performing for World Wrestling Entertainment. Born in Ayr, Scotland on June 6th 1985, he got his start in wrestling at 15 years old, training under Mark Sloan at the Frontier Wrestling Alliance Academy.
He debuted in 2003 for British Championship Wrestling under “Thee” Drew Galloway. Galloway wrestled for BCW and other UK promotions, such as Irish Whip Wrestling and Insane Championship Wrestling, until 2007, when he was signed by the WWE.
Now named Drew McIntyre, he made his debut in relatively short order, appearing as the protege of grizzled veteran Dave Taylor on Smackdown in October of 2007. This run didn’t last long, as he was sent to WWE’s developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling in 2008. While there, he captured the vacant Florida Heavyweight Championship, defeating Eric Escobar on March 19th 2009.
Later that year, McIntyre re-debuted on Smackdown as a heel. He was famously dubbed “a future World Champion” by Mr. McMahon and went on a winning streak which saw him capture the Intercontinental Championship from John Morrison. The reign lasted 161 days before he lost to Kofi Kingston at Over the Limit 2010.
After some visa issues, McIntyre returned to Smackdown and became one-half of the World Tag Team Champions with Cody Rhodes at Night of Champions 2010. McIntyre & Rhodes soon lost the titles to John Cena & David Otunga as part of the ongoing Nexus storyline. After this, McIntyre’s star faded somewhat, and by 2011 he was mainly seen on WWE C-show Superstars. He eventually found his way back to Smackdown, where he was the subject of a losing-streak storyline, which he ended by defeating Hornswoggle.
In 2012, Drew McIntyre formed 3MB (Three-Man Band) with Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal. The group were known as comedy heels, portraying themselves as rockstars but never being viewed as serious contenders for any championship. 3MB continued as a group for a couple of years until McIntyre was ultimately released from WWE on June 12th, 2014.
Drew McIntyre returned to the indie scene under his real name, Drew Galloway. He made his much-anticipated return to Scotland’s ICW on July 27th, 2014, where he entered a feud with Jack Jester. Galloway ultimately defeated Jester for the ICW Heavyweight Championship on November 2nd. He held this championship for an impressive 378 days but lost it to Grado at Fear and Loathing 2015.
After his WWE release, he also featured prominently for Evolve, where he became Evolve Champion after defeating Chris Hero. Galloway also was crowned one-half of Evolve’s inaugural Tag Champions with Johnny Gargano. While a significant part of Evolve and ICW’s rosters, Galloway appeared in promotions such as House of Hardcore, the Scottish Wrestling Alliance and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide.
In 2015, Galloway joined Total Nonstop Action, where he spent two successful years. He captured the TNA World Heavyweight Championship from Matt Hardy on the March 15th edition of Impact Wrestling, later losing it to Bobby Lashley at Slammiversary 2016. Galloway would depart TNA on February 26th 2017, due to being re-signed by the WWE after his impressive progress on the independent circuit.
Back under his Drew McIntyre moniker, he returned to WWE on their developmental brand NXT. It only took him four months to capture the NXT Championship from Bobby Roode at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III. He lost this title after 91 days to Andrade “Cien” Almas, suffering a torn bicep in the process, which kept him out of action for some time.
Drew McIntyre returned on April 16th, 2018, as part of the main roster, playing the role of Dolph Ziggler’s bodyguard. The two captured the Raw Tag Team Championships together, which would be lost to Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins on October 22nd. McIntyre and Ziggler split two months later, leading to a cage match on December 31st. McIntyre defeated Ziggler, ending their feud.
He then formed a brief alliance with Shane McMahon before going solo. A winning streak followed, with the WWE audience’s positive reaction growing as McIntyre won more matches. The winning streak continued from winning the 2020 Royal Rumble all the way through to defeating Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 36.
Drew McIntyre held the WWE Championship for 203 days through the challenging pandemic era when no fans could attend WWE shows. He successfully defended the championship against several big names such as the Big Show, AJ Styles and Randy Orton. Still, he was eventually bested by Orton at Hell in a Cell 2020. As part of their feud, McIntyre regained the championship fairly quickly, defeating Orton three weeks later. This added another 97 days to his record as WWE Champion. McIntyre lost the title to The Miz at Elimination Chamber 2021.
At Wrestlemania 37, McIntyre challenged again for the WWE Championship but lost to Bobby Lashley in the show’s opening match. Since then, McIntyre has been involved in various feuds with Happy Corbin, Roman Reigns, former stablemate Jinder Mahal, and Karrion Kross. Drew McIntyre featured prominently during the first ever men’s main roster War Games match at Survivor Series 2022, ultimately losing to The Bloodline.
