CM Punk has commented on the shocking announcement that AEW star Chris Jericho will appear on the WWE Network as a guest on The Broken Skull Sessions.
On April 2nd, a short teaser was released showing Jericho and Austin sitting across from each other on the set of Austin’s show. The interview between Stone Cold and the first-ever AEW Champion is set to air on April 11th. The same date as Night 2 of WrestleMania.
CM Punk who himself left WWE in 2014 in order to pursue other goals, was asked by TMZ for his thoughts on Jericho appearing on the show.
Punk explained that he doesn’t think the interview is what fans will be hoping for:
“It’s interesting, for sure. Obviously, I understand the buzz. Maybe I’ll give it a shot and watch it, but it feels like it’s going to be softball questions. I don’t know if they’re going to ask Jericho all the tough questions. Nor do I think that they possibly should. It’s an interesting situation and it’ll probably be a feel-good interview where they talk about Jericho’s past at WWE. I’m sure they’ll mention AEW, but they won’t get into the hard questions that I think people are interested in.”
The former WWE Champion then stated that he thinks the decision to allow Jericho on to a WWE-produced show is indicative of Vince McMahon’s feelings regarding AEW.
Punk stated:
“Honestly, my knee-jerk reaction and opinion is that I think it shows Vince McMahon isn’t afraid of AEW at all. If he was, he wouldn’t allow that to happen. Anytime anybody is talking about you, it is good. There will be people that don’t know AEW exists who will watch it and say, ‘Cool, I didn’t know that. I just thought Jericho was retired’. There is also something to be said about keeping your guys special and the only place you can see this superstar is on my television show. But it’s a new age and both companies need all the eyeballs they can get at the moment.”
Chris Jericho is currently embroiled in a feud in AEW between his Inner Circle and The Pinnacle. On the latest AEW Dynamite, the Inner Circle attacked MJF’s faction and then retook their locker room.
WWE COO Triple H recently discussed the last time he spoke with CM Punk – adding that as far a potential Punk return to WWE goes, it’s still ‘never say never.’
