Eric Bischoff Praises Tony Khan For Firing CM Punk, Claims It Was The Right Call

Eric Bischoff Blasts Tony Khan Over CM Punk Suspension

WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff has praised AEW owner Tony Khan for firing CM Punk noting that although it was a tough call, it was, in his opinion, the right one.

On September 2nd 2023, just two years after debuting in the company, CM Punk was released by AEW after an internal investigation into an alleged backstage incident with Jack Perry.

It had been alleged that Punk, angered by comments Perry made on air during his All In Zero Hour match against FTW Champion Hook, physically confronted the former Jungle Boy backstage, allegedly choking him and claiming he could “f*ck him up” at any time.

Additionally, third party reports from a “neutral source” claimed that Punk attempted to lunge at Khan who witnessed the full altercation with Perry from Gorilla Position.

Taking to Twitter, WWE Hall of Famer, Eric Bischoff would comment on the shocking news, praising Khan for his tough, but in his opinion correct, decision making.

Bischoff would write:

Just heard the news. In my opinion, @TonyKhan made the right call. A tough one, but the right one. #Respect”

Interestingly, Bischoff’s comments come just days after he questioned AEW’s decision to suspend and investigate CM Punk in light of the altercation.

How Old Is Eric Bischoff?

At the time of writing, September 2nd 2023, Eric Bischoff is 68 years old.

The wrestling legend celebrated his 68th birthday on May 27th 2023.

He is best known for his legendary work behind-the-scenes in WWE and WCW.

Eric Bischoff is not the only former WWE talent weighing in on CM Punk’s AEW release, eight time Hardcore Champion Justin Credible has called for WWE to “blow the roof off the business” by having CM Punk return at Payback!
