Ric Flair Calls Out WWE For “Breaking Tradition” At WrestleMania 39

Ric Flair

Ric Flair has claimed that there’s “no way” the match between Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens and The Usos should have been the main event of WrestleMania 39 night one.

The storyline between The Usos and their challengers had been building for months as it dominated programming. By contrast, the match between Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley was for the SmackDown Women’s Title and featured the Royal Rumble winner.

This led to a great deal of speculation over which made would take the headline spot. In the end, it was the Undisputed Tag Team Title match that got the nod, something that didn’t sit well with Ric Flair.

Speaking on his To Be The Man podcast, Flair said that his daughter’s match should have headlined, as it featured the winner of the Royal Rumble.

“We’re talking about what I think should personally happen in the promotion. There’s no way that Sami and KO and The Usos would go on after Ashley [Charlotte Flair] and Rhea, no way. Only in the WWE. [Conrad Thompson says that he thinks that The Usos vs. KO and Sami had the better story] That’s not the point. We’re talking about a single Championship from a girl that won the Royal Rumble. Why are we just breaking tradition just for one [night], for what? Why are we breaking tradition for one night?”

Ric Flair’s WWE Hall Of Fame Speech Didn’t Go Down Well

Ric Flair made his most recent WWE appearance at the Hall of Fame ceremony on March 31st. At the event, Flair inducted Japanese legend The Great Muta. However, many fans criticised Flair’s speech online, suggesting that he rambled and spoke more about himself than the man he was inducting.

This feeling was reportedly echoed by those within WWE.
