Cody Rhodes: 2022 Biography, Net Worth, Family, Income
Cody Runnels better known as Cody Rhodes was born on June 30, 1985, in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is a professional wrestler, and actor currently signed to WWE. Rhodes was destined to be a part of the wrestling business being the son of the legendary Dusty Rhodes and half-brother of Dustin Rhodes fka as Goldust.
Rhodes began his wrestling career in 2006 at WWE’s developmental promotion Ohio Valley Wrestling where he became a Triple Crown Champion in just 12 months. In 2007 alongside Dustin, he inducted his dad into the WWE Hall of Fame before making his main roster debut. That same year he won the Tag Team Championships twice before going on to join the Legacy – a faction of multi-generational wrestlers led by Randy Orton. As part of the Legacy, Rhodes was involved in main-event feuds with the McMahon Family, Triple H and Shawn Michaels before the faction disbanded in 2010.
Now riding solo he reestablished himself as Dashing Cody Rhodes – as a self-obsessed narcissist who held his good looks in the highest order. However, his looks were taken away from him by Rey Mysterio forcing him to become “undashing” and wear a protective face mask, which he used as a weapon en route to becoming the Intercontinental Champion. His run as the IC champ saw prestige return to the title with a successful 233-day run while bringing back the classic 1980s design complete with white strap.
Following his loss of the title in 2012, he formed a partnership with his half-brother, Goldust after they were both “fired” under Triple H’s authoritarian rule. In 2013 they teamed up to win their jobs back and the tag team titles from The Shield. This led to a complete transformation for Rhodes who was repackaged and renamed as Stardust – a cosmic version of Goldust.
Stardust declared Cody Rhodes was dead and turned on is brother. A feud with actor Steven Amell followed but did little to elevate him in WWE. The death of his father in 2015 resulted in Rhodes reevaluating his career and in 2016 he requested his release from the company.
Following his release he hit the independent circuit as the American Nightmare and rejuvenated his career. Appearances in PWG, EVOLVE, TNA/IMPACT, ROH and NJPW established him as one of the most important wrestlers in the industry. During this 3-year period he joined the Bullet Club, wrestled in the Tokyo Dome at Wrestle Kingdom 12 and 13 and promoted one of the largest independent shows in history All In, capturing the ROH World, IWGP United States and NWA World Heavyweight Championship in the process.
His successful run the circuit came to an end when in 2019 he, Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks announced themselves as Executive Vice Presidents, and in-ring performers of All Elite Wrestling. Rhodes was immediately placed in a prominent position as the face of the promotion and involved in a number of major storylines and matches. The star was also the first wrestler to challenge Chris Jericho for the AEW World Championship. His feud with MJF saw him compete in the company’s first-ever Cage Match and a few months later become the inaugural TNT Champion.
He exchanged the title in a rivalry with Brodie Lee, which culminated in the promotion’s first-ever Dog Collar match. He then had a high-profile angle with NBA legend Shaqille O’Neal before winning the TNT title for a third and final time in 2021. Rhodes left the promotion his helped build in Febuary of 2022.
Later that year he made his return to WWE as Seth Rollins’ surprise opponent at WrestleMania 38. Since returning to company he continued his feud with Rollins, defeating him on several big occasions and it was clear those in charge had big plans for him. However, a torn pectoral muscle resulted in surgery and a long period of rehabiltion. He remains on the injured list and one of the favourites to win 2023’s Royal Rumble upon his comeback.
