Britt Baker Comments On Speculation Linking Adam Cole To AEW

While Britt Baker has cemented herself as something of a fixture on AEW television, speculation has begun to swirl suggesting that she may soon be joined by her partner, current NXT Superstar Adam Cole.

Speculation has ramped up after it was revealed that the former NXT Champion’s WWE contract expired in early July. Following the expiration of his deal, Cole came to a short-term agreement with the company which is set to expire after SummerSlam.

It is currently unclear whether Cole signed a new contract, or is simply working under a verbal agreement.

Interestingly, Adam Cole has a significant past with many of the higher-ups in All Elite Wrestling, specifically The Young Bucks. Cole and The Bucks were heavily featured during the early days of Being The Elite and The ‘Superkliq’ as they dubbed themselves were all aligned with Bullet Club along with Kenny Omega.

Speaking to Matty Paddock of the DailyStar, Baker said that it would be awesome to see Cole in AEW, although she just wants him to be happy.

It should be noted that the interview took place before Cole’s current contract status came to light.

“He has got to hold down the Tuesday night and I’ll hold down the Wednesday night, right?!” she joked. “I think it’s funny when people say, ‘he has to go to AEW because of Britt!’ because there are so many more people at AEW who have played a bigger role in the wrestling side of his life. People like The Young Bucks, Kenny [Omega]; he was in the Bullet Club for the majority of the Indie career people know him for. He has such a history in AEW that, if he came here, the storylines are endless – but he’s happy where he is. So, if he were to jump ship and come my way, that would be awesome, but if he stays in WWE forever then I’d be happy, too, as I just want him to be happy.”

After Cole’s contract situation was revealed, a report from talkSPORT attempted to shed some light on why the former NXT Champion signed a short-term deal. The report notes that Cole signed the deal till after SummerSlam weekend to enable him to put Kyle O’Reilly over at NXT TakeOver: 36.

O’Reilly and Cole have been engaged in a war since Cole turned his back on the Undisputed Era back in February. The two men fought in an Unsanctioned Match in the main event of NXT TakeOver: Stand And Deliver in April but Cole avenged that loss at The Great American Bash.

Back in AEW, Britt Baker recently suffered a broken wrist at night two of AEW Fyter Fest. Baker sustained the injury during her successful AEW Women’s World Title defence against Nyla Rose.
